Sinuous springs are made from two-dimensional S-shaped wires and are also known as "No-Sag springs," "S coils," "Zigzag (zig zag) wire" or "zigzag (zig zag) springs". They are commonly used in ottomans, chairs (seat and back) and sofas (seat and back) and take the place of coil springs. Sinuous springs install quickly and easily and don't require a time-consuming hand-tie job. They are fastened with clips and no-sag nails, and they run every few inches apart from front-to-back or top-to-bottom on seats, backs, ottoman, etc.
Our sinuous springs are made from very high quality steel. They are available in two stiffnesses:
Clips also available for purchase at $0.35 each(one row of springs requires two clips); See below to order either firmness of springs and clips.
- Firm (9 gauge) - for seats and ottomans
- Soft (11 gauge) - for chair/sofa backs
All springs are sold in 10-foot running lengths only. Therefore, if you need 18 feet, you'll need to type "2" in the shopping cart (under quantity) and you'll receive 20 feet total, shipped in one continuous 20-foot piece. You will not receive two separate 10-foot pieces. This will help to minimize waste. As another example, 30 feet will be shipped as one continuous 30-foot length piece. Be sure to measure your needs accurately and account for desired curvature of spring. It is highly recommended to add at least 1 -2 feet than measured (especially with these types of springs)for it is better to be a little bit over and have excess rather than to be short!
Once you receive your springs, use this handy guide to determine where to cut your own lengths:
- Firm - Seven full loops equals one foot, so if you need to cut 12" lengths, count seven full loops and cut it off on either side of loop #1 and loop #7. You should have seven full loops after you've cut the 12" piece. In the photo sample above (the bottom photo with the springs installed), each length of firm is exactly one foot as there are seven full loops in the span (count the loops on the **right** side of the length of springs. If counting the left side of the length of springs, you will count only six full loops).
- Soft - Fifteen full loops equals two feet, so if you need to cut 24" lengths, count 15 full loops and cut it off on either side of loop #1 and loop #15. You should have 15 full loops after you've cut the 24" piece. In the photo sample above (upper right), each length of firm is exactly one foot as there are seven full loops in the span. The concept will be the same for soft (the photo uses firm, which is seven loops per foot).
Individually sized pieces of springs can easily be cut with bolt cutters; edges can easily be bent in a vice.
Remember: ordering is by the 10-foot length, so when purchasing, (from the shopping cart) type the number of 10-foot lengths needed into the quantity box and click "Update Quantities." Remember: Typing "2" in the quantity box will give you 20 feet total, shipped in one continuous 20-foot length.
All zigzag springs are cut-to-order and are non-returnable unless defective. Clicking on the "add to cart" button below acknowledges acceptance of non-returnable terms.
Always use extreme caution and wear eye protection when installing these springs.
