How to measure how much you need:
The best way to determine how many feet you need is by taking a piece string and running it all the around the parameter's edge of the area you want to close (which would most typically be the back of the object). This will tell you how many feet you need. Be sure to add at least an extra foot or so so that you won't come up short.
